504 All Weeks Discussions 1 And Discussions 2
FIN 504 Topic 1 DQ 1
What does it mean to say that managers should maximize
shareholders’ wealth “subject to ethical constraints”? What ethical
considerations might enter into decisions that result in cash flow and stock
price effects that are valued lower than they might otherwise have been?
FIN 504 Topic 1 DQ 2
What role do primary financial markets play in our economy? What
role do secondary markets fill? Describe the relationship that exists between
financial institutions and financial markets and suggest a method in which this
relationship can run more smoothly. Support your rationale with at least
one citation from the literature.
FIN 504 Topic 2 DQ 1
Access and solve problem P3-24 from the textbook, Principles of Managerial Finance.
Describe Zach Industries’ overall financial condition? Research and describe a
company currently in the news in similar financial condition, and compose a
comparative analysis on what can be/should be done to improve the circumstances
of both the fictional and real-world company. Support your answers with
financial ratios and provide explanations.
FIN 504 Topic 2 DQ 2
Describe elements which can commonly cause uncertainty in the
cash budget for an enterprise and the rationale for each. If you are the CFO of
a company, what techniques would you use to cope with this uncertainty? How
might this change in a very large company (1000+ employees) versus a
significantly smaller company (100+ employees)?
FIN 504 Topic 3 DQ 1
What effect does compounding interest more frequently than
annually have on (a) the future value, and (b) the effective annual rate (EAR)?
Explain. How would you explain the difference between the annual percentage
rate (APR) and effective annual rate (EAR) to a friend with no background in
finance?
FIN 504 Topic 3 DQ 2
Provide an example scenario with rationale of an area in your
personal life in which you would like to apply, or have already applied, time
value of money concepts. What might you do differently to effect a more
financially sound future?
FIN 504 Topic 4 DQ 1
Describe the impact of the coupon rate and yield to maturity
(YTM) on the bond par value and market value. If the Federal Reserve Bank
decides to increase the interest rate by 1% beginning next quarter, what steps
would you take as the CFO of a company to raise capital from the financial
markets?
FIN 504 Topic 4 DQ 2
Construct an argument regarding why an individual may not be
convinced to make a buy/sell decision based on the Gordon Growth Model (also
known as the Dividend Discount Model). Support your rationale with at least one
citation from the literature.
FIN 504 Topic 5 DQ 1
As a finance leader of your organization, how would you apply
the concept of risk and return in your daily decision-making processes? How
might you explain the concept of risk vs. return trade-off during the
shareholders meeting? How would a proposed initiative to diversify current
holdings affect the discussion? Explain.
FIN 504 Topic 5 DQ 2
Describe the logic underlying the use of target weights to
calculate the WACC, and compare this approach with the use of historical
weights. What is the preferred weighting scheme? Support your rationale with at
least one citation from the literature.
FIN 504 Topic 6 DQ 1
Explain how a net present value (NPV) profile is used to compare
projects. How does this profile compare to that of internal rate of return
(IRR)? How does reinvestment affect both NPV and IRR? Provide support for your
assertions.
FIN 504 Topic 6 DQ 2
Capital budgeting can be affected by exchange rate risk,
political risk, transfer pricing, and strategic risk. Select a sector and
specific company in the mid- large size range, and explain how each of these
factors can affect capital budgeting. Which of these factors provides the
greatest impact to your selected organization? What measure might one take to
reduce adverse impacts of any or all of these factors?
FIN 504 Topic 7 DQ 1
Research publicly traded companies, selecting two companies in
different sectors to provide a written comparison of the capital structure for
each. Explain your conclusions on the similarities and differences. What
factors can you suggest for why each company adheres to their chosen
structuring mechanism?
FIN 504 Topic 7 DQ 2
Why is understanding the relationship between the cash
conversion cycle (CCC) and net working capital important to the contemporary
business executive? Explain ways in which executive decisions regarding CCC and
net working capital can affect a company, both adverse and beneficial. Support
your response with a specific example from the business world.
FIN 504 Topic 8 DQ 1
Reflect on your experience building the financial analysis over
the span of this course. What component(s) seemed the easiest to develop? What
component(s) were the hardest? What other challenges did you encounter, and how
did you resolve them? Did anything surprise you as you worked through this
project? What are the key takeaways you have learned in this course that you
can apply tomorrow or in the near future?
FIN 504 Topic 8 DQ 2
Introduce the company that you have selected for the Case Study
assignment into the Main Forum. Provide a summary of the company and the
reasons you selected this specific company to analyze. Explain the process you chose
to assess your company’s future financial health, and your results. In your
responses to colleagues, identify an alternate assessment method that could
have been used and provide a brief rationale.

FIN 504 Topic 2 Case Study
Component 1
Details:
Throughout this course you will prepare a comprehensive
2,500-word financial analysis (excluding tables, figures, and addenda) of a
chosen company following the nine-step assessment process detailed in the
resource Assessing a
Company’s Future Financial Health. This analysis will be composed
of four separate component assignments in Topics 2, 4, 6, and 8.
Case Study Instructions: Overall
In this topic you will select a publicly traded company and
submit the name of the company to the instructor for approval by the end of the
topic. Note: You will need to have this step finalized before you can complete
the assignment detailed below, so it is in your best interest to select and
obtain approval as soon as possible.
Select a company that is public and enjoys extensive analyst
coverage (e.g., Apple, GE, Southwest Airlines, Walgreen, Exxon Mobile) to
insure access to sufficient financially oriented material regarding your chosen
company. The more information available, the easier it will be to perform the
financial analysis.
As you move through the nine steps in conducting your analysis,
you will research the market at each step for relevant data on your chosen
company, including analyst reports and market information. Disclose all
assumptions you are making in the case study (e.g., revenue growth projections,
expense controls) and provide supporting reasons and evidence behind those
assumptions. As your case study analysis develops over the span of the course,
you will synthesize the research data and outcomes of the nine-step assessment
process in order to assess the long-term financial health of the chosen
company.
Component 1:
For this assignment, apply the following two steps of the
nine-step assessment process to develop a 500-word analysis of the company you
have selected and which has been approved by your course instructor:
1.
Analysis of Fundamentals: Goals, Strategy, Market, Competitive
Technology, Regulatory, and Operating Characteristics
2.
Analysis of Fundamentals: Revenue Outlook
Note: You will be required to resubmit this assignment, revised
to incorporate all instructor feedback, along with the other three component
assignments as one comprehensive submission in Topic 8. To save time later in
the course, consider addressing any feedback soon after this assignment has
been graded and returned to you.

FIN 504 Topic 8 Case Study
Component 4 and Final Submission
Details:
Throughout this course you have been preparing separate
components of a comprehensive 2,500-word financial analysis (excluding tables,
figures, and addenda) of a chosen company following the nine-step assessment
process detailed in Assessing
a Company’s Future Financial Health.
There are three parts to the final component assignment of the
case study.
Part One (Case Study Component 4)
Apply the final three steps of the nine-step assessment process
to develop a 750-word analysis of your chosen company:
1.
Viability of the 3-5 Year Plan
2.
Stress Test Under Scenarios of Adversity
3.
Current Financing Plan
Part Two
Access the three prior component assignments, with instructor
feedback incorporated, that you submitted in Topics 2, 4, and 6. Integrate
these three assignments into the final case study submission along with the
Component 4 assignment in this topic to provide a comprehensive analysis
inclusive of all nine steps that flows from start to finish.
Part Three
Assume that you will be presenting your analysis to a group of
senior management at your place of employment that urgently needs to know this
information to make a major financial decision for your company. In 250 words,
develop an introduction to your analysis that can serve as an overview.
Consider factors that might impede their ability to focus on the information
you are presenting. For example, some of your audience may be pressed for time,
another may have a crisis in their work team that needs to be attended to
quickly, and others may simply not be paying attention. You have one chance to
impress them; keep your overview focused, succinct, and informative. Present
only key and other potentially relevant points this group needs to know.

APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not
