and evaluate children aged birth through 21 who may be in need of early
intervention or special education services due to a disability.
For this assignment, research the Child Find
requirements at the federal, state, and local levels, as applicable, in your
area. Use this information to create a two-sided pamphlet that a school could
distribute in the community to inform parents of the Child Find process in your
area.
Within your pamphlet, include the following:
- Information
about what families can expect as they move through the Child Find process
from initial referral through enrollment in special education, if found
eligible.
- IDEA
timelines and other IDEA requirements that would support families in
understanding the process.
- Roles
and responsibilities of families and teachers/special education staff
throughout the process, including how the teacher or special education
staff will serve as an advocate for the child and the family and encourage
their participation.
- At
least two local and two national resources that families can use to learn
more about IDEA and the Child Find process.

Field Experience C: Pre-Assessment Using Non-Standardized Assessments
The clinical field experience in this course must take
place in a K-3 setting.
Allocate at least 5 hours in the field to support this
assignment.
Review the benchmark assignment, “Small Group Assessment
Plan” in Topic 5, as you will use this field experience to inform Part 1 of
that assignment.
In this field experience, continue to observe the
class. With your mentor teacher, select a small diverse group of 4-6 students
(include at least one student with exceptionalities) and determine an academic
area in which to assess them.
Select a technology-based assessment to use with these
students. Your assessment should be a developmentally appropriate and engaging
activity or game that will quickly assess the students’ present
levels in the selected area. It may be professionally produced,
self-created, or pre-created by your mentor teacher. Implement the assessment
to establish the students’ current levels of performance in the academic area
you chose to assess.
For your technological device, you may choose to use
an interactive white board, tablet, computer, augmentative communication
device, or any other form of technology found in your classroom for this
assignment. You are also encouraged to differentiate the assessment to meet
individual student needs, as applicable for the students in the group.
In 250-500 words, summarize your developmentally
appropriate and engaging technology-based assessment choices and rationalize
how your choices meet the needs of students in your small group. Be sure to
explain how you will use your findings in your future professional practice.
If technology is not available, create an alternative
pre-assessment to implement. In addition, identify and rationalize technology
that could be an appropriate support for the students identified as well as the
school or district representative that supports technology to obtain tech
support to meet specific student needs in the classroom.

observed classroom who would benefit from a differentiated lesson plan. Create
a lesson for that student using the “COE Lesson Plan Template” that could be
used to:
- Build
student skills in that assessment developmental or academic area.
- Gather
more information about the student’s level of performance in the selected
developmental or academic area using one formative and one summative
assessment.
Additionally, include a 250-300 word rationale
explaining why the lesson plan and assessments are appropriate for the student
you selected.
Submit the lesson plan and rationale as one
deliverable.

ECS 590 Topic 5 Benchmark
– Small Group Assessment Plan
Part 1: Pre-Assessment Using Non-Standardized
Assessments
Begin this assignment by pre-assessing a small group
of students as a continuation of your clinical field experience in Topic 4. In
this field experience, you were asked to select a developmentally appropriate
and engaging technology-based assessment that was implemented with your
identified small group. After assessing the children, write a 250-500 word
summary of the experience. Describe the academic area you assessed, the
assessment tool used, the results of the pre-assessment, and your
considerations regarding differentiation (why you did or did not differentiate
the assessment.) When recording the assessment results, keep the information
confidential and use pseudonyms for the students.
Part 2: Design and Deliver a Lesson
In your Topic 5 field experience you were asked to
design and deliver a lesson. Reflecting on your experience, you identified
differentiations you would make to your lesson, assessment, and/or assessment
procedures in the future. Revise and complete your lesson plan to reflect these
differentiations.
Part 3 : Analyze Post-Assessment Data and Communicate the
Assessment Results
After delivering the lesson and post-assessment, begin
analyzing the pre- and post-assessment data. Select one student with
exceptionalities to provide additional assistance at home. Write a 250-500-word
letter to send home to the family of this student that provides feedback
regarding his or her performance. This letter should include information
regarding the assessment data and suggest a research-based at-home activity that
the parents can facilitate to support their child’s development in the domain
area. In addition provide the family a rationale as to why that specific
activity is appropriate for meeting their child’s needs, including how the
activity supports the child’s transition for the next grade level.
Submit the pre-assessment summary, the revised lesson
plan, the post-assessment data, the family letter, and the rationale as one
deliverable.
While APA style format is not required for the body of
this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and
